Good Schools Making the Grade

Welcome from the Skillman Foundation

Dear Summit Participants,

Welcome to the Good Schools High School Summit where we will be engaged in discussions related to the direction of high schools in our state as well as nationally. This inclusion of high schools could not have begun at a more opportune time as the call is sounded to truly bring reform to our nation’s high schools by making them more rigorous and relevant.

Closer to home, Governor Jennifer Granholm has mandated that Michigan schools must meet this challenge if our cities, economy, businesses and industries are to survive and grow. It is therefore essential and necessary to aggressively enhance, build, and improve relationships and alliances with students, parents, teachers and the community. We can then begin to chart a course of action that insures the preparation of graduates to successfully pursue post secondary educational opportunities and be able to compete in the workforce of today and tomorrow.

It is imperative that we refocus, re-challenge and reform our high schools in the city of Detroit. The Skillman Foundation is delighted to be an integral part of this process.
