Good Schools Making the Grade

Criteria for Student Achievement Data

Non-MEAP Schools, 2007-2008

The Resource Center strongly encourages all schools to participate in the state assessments.  The tests may be administered to students with no cost to the schools.  However, schools are eligible to apply if they do not administer the MEAP.  Following are guidelines for Non-MEAP schools.

  1. Schools must administer a nationally recognized norm-referenced test. National norms must be used.  The edition used must be no more than eight years old.

  1. Schools must report the mean (average) percentile for the tested grade.  Grade equivalent units, stanines scores, or scale scores will not be accepted. Mean scores must be computed by the test publisher.   The school should not compute the average percentile

  1. Students must be tested in Reading (Reading Comprehension or Reading Total), Math (Math Applications or Math Total), and Science.

  1. Students must be tested in:

Elementary

    • Math grade 5
    • English Language Arts grade 5
    • Science grade 5

    • English Language Arts grade 8
    • Science grade 8

High

    • Math grade 11

  1. At least 95% of the students enrolled in the tested grade must have participated in the test.  The number tested must be equal to or greater than 10.  If fewer than 10 students are tested, and this is at least 95% of the student enrollment, then that school will be eligible for a special recognition award.

  1. Schools must allow at least 10 months between the pre and post test.

  1. Official documentation, from the test publisher, must be provided.

  1. Schools applying in the High Performing classification must have a mean percentile of 75 in two of the three tested areas -- Reading, Science, or Math; the mean percentile of the third area must be at least the 60.
